Self promotion. Let's review the double standard.

Ads, TV, the big stuff, are usually done by pros at ad agencies. Collateral is usually done by agency juniors (if you're lucky) or in-house desktop publishers who often have little training in advertising and none in marketing. But they can use a computer.

A computer ain't the same as creative ability. The ability to question, to redefine, to write or collaborate with a writer or art director, with an illustrator or photographer or printer or Web technician—to be sensitive to maketing and sales goals—are what you need from an ad or design pro.
